What’s your educational and professional background?
Note: This list is adapted from a graphic created by my Professor Michael Geffel. I took inspiration from the insight of this simplified resume structure. Glancing briefly, I can quickly understand the jobs I’ve gravitated towards throughout my life and the associated skills. I can see from my decades of experience that I have great training and experience in community building, communications–specifically in artistic and environmental work settings.
My educational and professional career has been broad and the path circuitous.
In 2014, I graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts in international studies and a minor in Dance.
Directly following graduation, I worked as an adventure guide for the YMCA Camp Seymour in Gig Harbor, Washington.
During the spring of 2015, I worked on a homestead in Camas, WA as part of the WWOOF––World Wide Organization of Organic Farms––community with my partner, Robert Uehlin.
Following this experience, my partner Rob and I participated as Artists-In-Residence in Fergus Falls, MN, with the organization Springboard for the Arts, where we created a couple of dance-for-camera art pieces.
Returning to Portland, I worked for a few years as a front desk receptionist at an insurance agency. Shortly into the work, I transitioned into a marketing assistantship.
Additionally, I served as an AmeriCorps member with Metropolitan Family Service for a year and a half. In this position, I served as an after-school counselor and a financial education counselor for adults and children. I also provided multimedia and communications support for the Economic Empowerment department, including social media graphics, short videos, photos, and other promotional material.
My most recent job before graduate school was working as a marketing associate for Financial Beginnings USA, a nonprofit dedicated to teaching relevant financial education skills to children of all ages.
Lastly, since 2015, I have also served as a freelance filmmaker and photographer. Following my acceptance into graduate school, I have transitioned out of this work to focus on my studies.
